Our very own Dustin Montey, director at Dakota Prairie Composting, shares more about the Free Christmas Tree Drop-off program. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: What’s the goal of this program?
Dustin: We want to make it easy for people to recycle their holiday greenery and help the environment at the same time.

Q: What can people drop off?
Dustin: We accept holiday trees, garlands, and spruce tops—as long as they’re free of decorations, plastic, artificial trees, tinsel, wire, flocking, and other non-compostable materials.

Q: When and where?
Dustin: From December 29 to January 30, bring your items to 12386 Chestnut Blvd, Shakopee, MN 55379 during regular business hours. It’s totally free and open to the public!

Q: What happens to the trees?
Dustin: We turn them into compost, which helps gardens grow and keeps waste out of landfills.
You heard it here! Once the holidays are over and you’re ready to take down the decorations, don’t just toss your Christmas tree—give it a new purpose through the Free Christmas Tree Drop-off program at Dakota Prairie Composting!
